Proteins: The Most Important and Least Understood Nutrient In Cat & Dog Food

July 30th, 2009

Cat and dog owners are advised by authorities, government agencies and veterinarians, that so long as animal food meets the standards of the American Association of Feed Control Officers (AAFCO), it is sufficient for the health of the animal. Is it? Do these agencies and authorities have a deep understanding of animal nutrition? Or, is their understanding superficial? Let’s think together about proteins and see if we can make a judgment about their competence.

Scientific Language Is Baby Talk Compared To Atomic Communication

Proteins, like all biological matter, are composed of atoms, such as carbon, hydrogen, and others. Dependent upon by the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons, each atom is defined as a particular element.

The dissection does not stop there. Besides the electrons, protons, and neutrons, atoms are also made up of even smaller particles: mesons, leptons, muons, quarks, and others.

This last subset of particles is often called a weird quantum menagerie. These are not particles in the sense we think of particles. In fact, desperate for a term to describe them, physicists have settled on calling them “probability waves,” if that helps.

Not only is the substance of quantum particles otherworldly but their location and movement are in another dimension. To scientifically calculate a quantum address requires mathematical notations detailing motion (spin, rotation around a central axis, and a high speed pendulum-like oscillation), electromagnetic forces (charge and magnetic moment), and the bizarre properties of strangeness, charm, and color.

As if that was not enough to upset our normal expectations, quantum particles can be in two places at once, can change from a particle to a wave dependent upon how they are observed, and much more weirdness.

Mystery Is Built Into Creation

Possible states are so numerous, it is theoretically feasible and logically compelling that no quantum particle, atom, protein, human being, or for that matter any abstracted part of the universe, is identical to any other part.

Add to that insight that matter is the foundation of life, and the strangeness multiplies. Proteins, like all biological material, are bizarre substances moving through a really strange pulsating, living universe.

Millions of species of plants and animals, many with unique protein systems, are a complete mystery to us. Fish glowing in the dark, frogs with hallucinogenic body slime, the genetic phonemes of the bacterial language, all depend upon proteins.

You need not go to exotic fauna for examples. Human cells, the scientists have guessed, make 50-150,000 different proteins. Each of the 25 trillion cells in the human body contains tens of thousands of proteins, participating in thousands of chemical reactions in each second. This storm of activity is so mysterious it might as well be going on in a parallel universe.

Communication Of Another Kind

What else? How about completely incomprehensible communication channels. In a protein, often containing millions of amino acids wound into highly specific shapes resembling steel wool, the particle/waves of protein substance are micro-dot and dash vectors in an intricately layered, multidimensional Morse code of vitality.

Proteins, especially those making up the genes, communicate to each other. We know they communicate, and usually quite accurately, because animal bodies have an internal and external reason, memory, and purpose.

Pretending To Know Is Not The Same As Knowing

Follow along with me here. Veterinary scientists discovered that cats and dogs need certain proteins, composed of certain amino acids. Ever since they have been blinded by this knowledge. Plant and animal proteins in cat and dog foods are permitted simply because they contain the required amino acids. This includes shoe leather, ground up cats and dogs (euthanized animals are legitimate proteins for animal feed), and ground up cancerous cows and chickens. These recommendations assume a protein safety that is not borne out by our intuition. Proteins are much more than a collection of amino acids!

Finally, Common Sense Is more Helpful Than Corporate State Science

Cats and dogs are neither vultures nor cannibals. They need a diet somewhat close to what their ancestors ate. Include some raw food and high quality nutrition in your pet’s food and see the difference in their health and your veterinary bills.

Do they make a cat FOOD that is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside?

July 29th, 2009

Is there any cat food similar to those Whiskas Temptations treats?
Im having a hard time finding a cat food that mt cats will eat…They seem to like the crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside thing..

Do they make a cat FOOD that is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside??
All I can find is the treats…

Ive tried just plain wet food and it gives them diarrhea…When I mix hard and soft they wont eat it!

yes but its hard to find, for me anyway. it is made by whiskas and comes in a purple bag - try walmart or kmart - you local grocery store may carry it also.

What brand is the healthiest dog food to buy?

July 29th, 2009

A majority of the time my dog has a little of what we eat, within reason, to go with her complete dried food, but occasionally I feed her with a ready made wet food. I have recently bought a brand which says it contains at least 60% meat, which made me think of what the others contain.

I have looked at other brands (including the premium lines of the best sellers) and I am shocked to see they contain only an avarage of 4% meat!

So I ask - what is the healthiest wet dog food out there?

Pedigree Chum my bum!!! It contains 4% of meat, so the rest is crap and water basically! As do all of the foods you can buy in the supermarket…I don’t know why they’re still legal, but they prey on the ignorant to keep them in business…so wise up, this is your dog we are talking about!!

I feed my German Shepherd Nature Diet (www.naturediet.co.uk gives you info all about it). It’s about 80% meat, and the rest is rice and vegetables…it’s totally pure, steam cooked and I’d feel happy eating it. It’s not as cheap as the tinned crap, but why would it be?? If you care about your dog, you wouldn’t cut corners with their diets! The tinned crap can cause them to moult all year round, gain or lose weight unnecessarily, and give them behavioural difficulties. It’s no different from a child being fed McDonalds and sweets full of E numbers all the time…it would have a detrimental effect!

Dried food is also good for your dog, because it helps their teeth, and can also help to stop any tummy problems, or runny poo’s etc…but I personally think it’s a bit unnatural and processed, so I only serve it as a "side order", rather than a main meal. Would you eat dried chicken? I certainly wouldn’t. The best dried food I’ve come across is Hill’s Science Plan…it’s not cheap, but it’s mostly meat, and no artifical ingredients like many of the "highstreet" brands.

How does Organic pet food help my pet live longer? Is there a difference between Organic and all natural food?

July 29th, 2009

I have been thinking about feeding my dog Organic pet foods, then I see something called "all natural foods." What is the difference if any?

Organic means grown without herbicides or pesticides. All natural means everything in it is natural… eg. a plant, animal or grain.

Pesticides are made to kill things… anyone who thinks they can kill the bugs and weeds but are perfectly safe to consume should really think about it. I know they are consumed in minute quantities, but over time I tend to wonder why we have so much more cancer and immunodeficiency ailments these days such as asthma and severe allergies.

Whichever you go with be sure it is a good quality animal diet… as far as cost goes you are better off buying a grain free (or at lease wheat and corn free) diet over an organic diet with wheat or corn in the top 5 ingredients. If you can afford an organic grain free diet…then your pup is one lucky dog!

Wheat and corn are much harder on your animal than the small amount of pesticides are…

And this is coming from someone who buys organic LOTS and truely understands the difference.

How do you get a cat to eat cat food, when they will only eat people food?

July 29th, 2009

My cat would rather starve himself to death than eat cat food. He has lost about 3 pounds over the past week and a half since he stopped eating cat food. I took him to the vet and they say nothing is wrong with him. Is there any great tasting cat food that I could try to get my cat to eat?

Quite frankly, if he gets hungry enough, he’ll eat. He’s spoiled. Quit feeding him people food. Period. Leave out some dry cat food for him. When he gets hungry he’ll eat it. He may try to resist for a few days, or even a week. But he’ll give in.

Whats the difference between dog treats and regular dog food?

July 29th, 2009

More specifically, whats in dog treats thats so different from regular dog food, and makes dogs freak over their treats? Why isnt this just added to regular dog food to make it more appealing to dogs, not that it really matters?

Nothing is different in most, they are cheaply made, most are very high in fat content and have very high ‘flavourings’ in them…not really good food for dogs, but because they are different and are given as a treat they become high value to the dog………….if you fed a bowl of treats a day, they would lose that high value and they certainly wouldn’t give the nutrients required, make your dog fat and un healthy

What kind of pet food is healthier to feed your cat, dry food or canned food?

July 29th, 2009

We have been feeding our new cat canned food because that is what the shelter said she preffered. However, we just got back from the vet and learned she has gingivitis. I have also heard that most canned food is essentially the same thing as giving your pets junk food or candy. What’s the answer?

Actually feeding both is best. The vet I worked at fed a little canned food and free fed dry through out the day…. Canned food is not like candy. It is high in meat content and is good for them, but they need the dry to clean their teeth. Hope that helps!

How can I keep my dog from eating cat food?

July 28th, 2009

I have had my cat for three years. Yesterday I took in a dog to keep him from going to the pound. He is well behaved and trained, but he likes to eat the cat food. His bowl is full of his own food, but he won’t hardly touch it. Is there something I could do to keep him out of the cat food?

Yes, put the cat food up out of reach. Then, only feed the cat and the dog at an actual feeding time. Leaving food out for animals is not really that healthy. Once the cat food is out of reach (really out of reach), the dog might be more willing to eat his own food. If that does not help, you might try adding a little bit of canned dog food with the dry, into his food bowl and mix a little water. Gradually decrease the canned until it is just dry food mixed with a little water. Our dogs have always eaten their food with a little water added. Congratulations on saving the dog. Also have him checked for worms.

What kind of dog food can have more fiber in for a cocker spaniel ?

July 28th, 2009

I heard that dog food with corn in is bad for dogs. And they recommeded all bran cereal, but she won’t eat. And canned pumpkin, she will eat. And our dog always has to have her glands cleaned out, or expressed. She is always scooting and have to go to vet.

If your issue is with your dog’s anal sacs, then changing diet is not going to do anything to help the situation. Your best bet is to actually have them surgically removed and this will eliminate the cause of all the scooting and the trips to the vet to have them expressed.

As for the fiber, just go to the store and check all the labels. dog food labels have fiber content on them.

What do you think the consequence should be for the Iams company due to the rat poison found in pet food?

July 28th, 2009

Well, first, there was the Iams Cruelty story, which happened before I got my dog. Thats why i never bought Iams when I did get my dog.

Now I am very thankful I didnt ever feed it to him, because of the recent founding of rat poison in the food.

I think Iams should loose their license to own a pet food company. If that doesnt happen, they will go bankrupt. Either way, they will be shut down.

What do you think?

I agree with you. I seen the video long ago on how IAMS treats animals and I never have and never will buy their products!!! They should have been put out of business long ago, but unknowledgable people patronize them!!!! I hope will ever is responsible for all of these animals sickness and death has to pay a multimillion law suit. No amount of $$$ will bring these dead animals back!!!!! SO SAD!!!!!!!!!!
