The best food in the world is no good if they won't eat it. Mine started on Wellness as kittens but now they won't touch it. One of the best brands recommended by my breeder is Innova EVO. I live in Canada to & we have it. Looks & smells good enough for us humans! But of course, mine refused to eat it. They love crappy old grocery store Fancy Feast, which certainly isn't my first choice but it's better than nothing. At least they get a high quality dry formula to make up for it.
References :
Birman breeder & feline vet recommendations.

I recommend Felidae, Innova for cats, Evo, California Natural, and Wellness. These are all healthy for your cat. If they are not available in stores near you they are available online. good luck finding one for your finicky kitty =]
References :
http://www.naturapet.com/default.asp

Wellness, Wellness Core, Trader Joe's cat food (I was surprised at this but they are extremely good with protein levels and ingredients), EVO, and Fromm. All those are canned, and better quality than those found at grocery stores.
References :
You are right, friskies isn't great but i would still rather you feed that then dry food. Stay away from the gravy flavors. You have wellness canned where you are and that is the best if he will eat it
References :
I just switched our 12 year old indoor cat to Wellness brand wet food - it is all human-food-grade ingredients, with no grain or corn (which means no fillers, and also some cats can be allergic to it). She loves it, it comes in many flavors.
