The better quality foods are better for digestion, coat, internal organs and general overall health. Dogs fed a good diet are less prone to being overweight, having allergies, digestive upsets, kidney issues and uti’s. Also studies strongly suggest that corn & soy may be the cause of unexplained seizures in dogs. Corn & soy are major ingredients in most supermarket brand foods.

Stay away from cheap low quality foods such as Beneful, pedigree, IAMS/Eukanuba, Science Dirt, Purina Dog Chow and other supermarket type foods..they are loaded with the cheap fillers & by products and some of them (like Beneful) contain dyes and chemical preservatives.

Look for foods such as Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul, Canidae, Blue Buffalo, Premium Edge, California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova to name a few.These are good quality foods with out all the crap.

Dogs are not grain eaters..they are not designed to extract nutrition from grains.It takes up to 3 times more of a grain based food then it does a good quality meat based food for a dog to obtain proper nutrition.
It is poor economy ot feed the low quality cheap foods..since you need to feed a lot more of it and it also produces more waste.

My dog has allergys and cannot digest corn or any type of fillers that is why I feed a good quality food . and less mess and waste. also their coats are superb and they are very healthy . My mom feeds her husky a high quality dog food and the vet is alway amazed at her blood work . she is 14 and she runs around like a puppy still . Never any problems with her and my mom is convinced and so am I that it is because mom and i feed the better quality dog food. good luck and i hope you can convince your mother this is why to feed the higher quality dog food.

It is important for all the reasons stated above. i use Propac Dog food. It is less expensive than a lot of quality food and is supposed to be better tan Eukanuba and the like. You wont find it at chain stores. Another great food is Canidae, same story.

The cheap or commerical foods contain ingredients not safe for human consumption. If you check the ingredients and see a meat by product that means it could be anything from road kill to hoof. There are also alot of preservatives in cheap dog foods that are banned from human food because they ccause cancer, like BHA, BHT , and the worse is Ethoxyquin. Feeding the cheap foods you are cutting your dogs life span, by diseases like cancer, Also alot of the cheap food have alot of fillers which hurt the dogs digestive system in time. All the combination of stuff lead to allergies, cancer, digestive problems, and a shorter life. Trust me you are saving more money by buying better dog food because the vet bills in the long run from teh cheap unhealthy food will out cost the expense.

I have a ten year old Jack Russell, if she eats cheap (like even Pedigree) canned food, or people food, she gets terrible gas, and the runs, I only give her Science Diet cans and Beneful dry, also have a Golden 10-month old puppy, she only eats Science Diet Puppy, cans, plus the Beneful. It does make a difference too, because their poop is not super stinky, trust me it does not smell "good", but I can tell that they feel better with better food. This stuff is not "the very best" but is pretty good for them,

They should eat the same thing all the time, or you will both suffer the consequences

lets put it this way….. if u had your choice to eat everyday a healthy but flavorible meal or have Mcdonnals everyday for the rest of your life?

Kepping in mind that fast food is not good for you, makes u gain weight, and simply feel worn out without really making you feel full and content…….

Would u feed you child substandard food just to save a little money or would u rather feed it good food to be strong and healthy…. Your puppy IS your child at this point and is depending on you to make good choices for him. !!!

keep up the good work,,, mom is wrong…… allergies, coat , skin etc,. will all be better if you feed a premium food with no corn , wheat , by-products

i have fed NUTRO bite size dog food that i purchase at our local farm supply store………it has all the nutrients that a dog needs…….it comes down to personal choice and how much you can afford.

Nutrition is just as important to animals as it is to humans. I used to feed my dogs supermarket name brand dog food.

Since I changed their diet, to human quality dog food here is my results.

1. Less visits to the vets. I have saved at least $100.00 on one of my dog’s vet’s visit because he was always getting hot spots, and no longer does.

2. Less shedding.

3. Better elimination

I can tell you there is a big deal to what you feed your dog.
I fed kibbles to mine for 12 years. She is now a diabetic on insulin twice a day. 30.00 dollars a bag that you can only get at the Vets plus the cost of insulin, syringes, test strips, blood test at the Vet at 85.00 a whack Yes what they eat is a big deal
BUT unfortunately almost all processed dog foods suck human food I don’t know I feed mine meatballs made with broccoli & carrots that I make myself from wild oats NO HARMONS NO ANTIBIOTICS but the cost is 4.99-7.99 a LB for the meat hell we don’t eat that well. . The ( GOOD OLD DAYS ) Dogs never went to the vet they ate what ever you scraped off the table but now it’s a trillion dollar bis. good & bad. The one thing I have learned
from reading and reserch is consistancy is the best way to go no matter what you decide on.
