What is a great dog food for my dog with a sensitive stomach?
March 20th, 2010
He is healthy and young Pomeranian(1 yr), but he either diarrhea or vomits up most everything he eats. I have changes dog foods many times, which I really don’t want to do anymore, I know that is not good for him either. Also I have tried making him food, like eggs/ham/rice…and that seemed to agree with him a little more, but not great. I just need a great healthy preferably softer dry food that is good for him! thanks!
When my whippet has soft stools I cut back his food to let him recover from what ever bug he has and only feed him small amounts of either boiled rice with natural yogurt, or some scrambled eggs cooked in very little oil and if I have some chicken in the fridge I boil that and shred it and serve that with some boiled rice/pasta.
But the trick is not to feed a dog with diarrhea too much in fact the vet would suggest you starve him during the day.
Good luck!

This may not work considering my dog could eat your dog for a snack.
I have a great dane/Labrador/great perinese mix. She eats Purina One and it never messes with her stomach. She has been eating it since she was a puppy.

My 1 year old lab has a sensitive stomach, as well. When her system seems particularly upset I opt for plain boiled chicken and plain white rice for a week.
March 20th, 2010 at 10:57 AMAs for store bought products, I’ve found the Eukanuba Sensitive Stomach works the best. It is pricey. At my local PetSmart it’s $50 a bag. Yikes!
Good luck. If nothing works, check with you vet. Your dog may have a particular food allergy.

Hoochie can haz a hotdog!
I think you need to talk to your vet about this. You need to rule out any digestive disorders before you change his diet.
You could always consider feeding raw.

I love to help!
I suggest looking into a food with NO fillers in them (no wheat, corn, rice, etc), because many dogs have wheat allergies, so many dog foods don’t use wheat and corn now (considered the worst fillers), but dogs like yours may be sensitive to fillers on any kind, like rice.
Try brands like:
Before Grain http://www.beforegrain.com/
Innova EVO http://www.evopet.com/products/default.asp?id=1488
Orijen http://www.orijen.ca/orijen/products/adult.aspx
These have basically no fillers.
I have also heard the Nutro dog food is recommend for dogs with sensitive stomachs, but it does have rice in it as a filler.
