There wouldn’t be any dog shows without sponsors... Entries would become horrendous, ruling out many people who do not have a lot of money to spare.

It would be great to see butchers raising their hands, to lay out the big bucks it takes to put a dog show or competition on, but I won't hold my breath!! lol

Like it or not those big companies like Purina are vital for that sort of thing, because their money helps pay for the judges, stewards, hire of facilities, the prizes, ribbons, trophies and so on.

If I or my friends win a comp - We gratefully shake hands and smile.... and the bag of kibble (whom ever it is made by), is graciously accepted and then discretely taken to the nearest dog shelter where ANY and ALL donations (even those of kibble) are always received with the utmost thanks and appreciation! You will be glad you did!

This is standard procedure by myself and my friends, and seems to me a good solution to the problem. It makes me feel good (I cannot offer a lot financially) and helps others. Making a ‘scene’ is only going to hurt the chances of that show receiving help from that sponsor again in the future, you can spread your opinions on raw feeding via more tactful methods then directly insulting a sponsor of an event. Hell we need all the sponsors we can get! As for boycotting an event, well that is only hurting yourself.

Accept your prize whatever it is and be thankful. There are times where I would rather receive a big bag of kibble which I can pass on to my local shelter, then some of the big and truly tacky trophies I have received.
References :
I go to dog shows sponsored by Pet Food Companies and I just recently switched to Raw, I Like going to dog shows to see all the dogs and the events they participate in because I love dogs, and who ever is sponsoring doesn't affect that.

So there is this Dog show coming to my town and its kind of a fun raiser for our local dog shelters so of course i am going to go so i can support our shelters, its going to be sponsored by Purina and Pedigree and some other i believe ether way even dough I don't feed my dogs kibble or ever again, I won't protest it in such a big event but I will make it clear that i don't feed them that to my Dogs so i got these shirts for me and my friends that say "I Feed Raw Meat To MY Dog/Dogs" or "I Feed Raw Meat To MY Carnivore", or "I Feed Raw Meat To MY (insert chosen breed)" and I also made some for our Dogs like "Look At Me I Eat Raw Meat", "My Owners Love Me Cuz They Feed Me Raw Meat", and my favorite "Look out People Carnivore In The Room" They are real crowd pleases, plus if fun to see dose strange looks you get from people and sometimes they ask about their diets and boom you raise awareness and you make it clear that you are against kibble but at the same time you aren't removed by security because you were boycotting (is that how you spell it?)

But ether way everyone has different thoughts about this issue and this is you my humble opinion.

Add: Like Anna & The Peanut said boycotting only hurts you, since it could send you to jail if old enough.

plus even dough i am taking some rather unique T-shirts to our Dog show, I may be stating my opinion along with my Friends Family and their Dogs, but I am glad that some of the money gained by the Dog show will help our very needy Shelters, I donate 3 Bags sometimes more every months to our local and sometimes not so local animal shelters It may not be the supper kibble but it is help they sometimes/most times need and they will take it and I always feel good about it.
References :
C.G Raw Feeder.

I don't show my dogs, but if I did, the sponsors of the show would not worry me. I don't use lots of the products provided by many many sponsors of loads of sporting events I attend and support. I appreciate the sponsors money is the reason we are able to run many major events - currently the Tennis is on in my home town (the Australian Open) and is sponsored by KIA - it won't make me buy their cars, but I can appreciat that without their support Melbourne might not get this event that brings mega-bucks to town! Same goes on a smaller scale with dog shows. I feed my dogs what I feed them and don't foist my opinion onto others. Dogs who look healthy, have heaps of energy, behave well and sleep well have no need to change their diets just because someone has a barrow to push! In case anyone wants to know mine are fed a mix of "super-premium" dried food and raw chicken (frames and necks) - they are both super healthy.
References :
I am a raw feeder and while I don't show my dogs or participate in events it seems that if you boycotted everything sponsored by dog food sponsors there would be nothing left. It all comes down to the all might dollar and who is willing to shell out the big bucks to sponsor an event.

IF I did particpate then no I don't think the sponsors would prevent me from participating. Raw feeders are used to being the minority in a multi-million dollar kibble advertising world from fellow dog owners, commercials and even vets pushing the oh so wonderful science diet crap.
References :
A major sponsor of the DVG is Royal Canin...I know nothing of their supposed quality (sorry no nugget that's been cooked until it's so burnt it crunches is quality) but their logo is plastered all around the arena. I'm a business man, it's all money...if somebody was paying me for an advertising spot and the company I preferred refused? Forget them! I gave them their chance and I highly doubt a banner is going to change any hard nosed Sch trainers to switch from a raw diet to Royal Canin!
References :
I don't see why it should make any difference. For example, I don't like Science Diet, I think it's overpriced crap, but I would not boycott a show just because they happened to be a sponsor. If you win a bag of the food, you can donate it to your local shelter.

It's thanks to sponsors, primarily dog food companies, that clubs are able to put on the shows at all without charging us even more exorbitant entry fees. So I appreciate their support - whether I like their food or not.
